Giving at Rock Point
Why we give
Sacrificial generosity is first an act of worship. The giving of our finances strengthens our commitment to Jesus and frees us to live open-handedly with the gifts God has given us. We trust in Him and His provision instead of our own resources. We believe God has been abundantly generous to us. As our lives are being transformed by Him, we can’t help but be generous in return.
Our financial gifts are what we do to support the regular ministries of the church. We are asking each person to
consider committing themselves to this kind of faithful giving. We would encourage you to take God at His Word
when He says, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse...and test Me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you a blessing until it overflows.” (Malachi 3:10).
The Heart of Giving
At Rock Point, we aim to worship God in our giving by covenanting together to contribute cheerfully and regularly (see 2 Corinthians 9:6–7) to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations, as we strive to honor the Lord with the “firstfruits” (Proverbs 3:9) of all our labor. Rather than simply being mechanical, giving is a spiritual discipline that tangibly expresses our faith in God to provide for us and to use what we give for his work.
We give because:
God owns it all (Psalm 24:1; 50:10-12)
God calls us to steward what he has entrusted us with (Matthew 25:14-30)
God calls us to give him our first and best (Genesis 4:3-5; Proverbs 3:8-9)
God modeled generosity for us by giving his one and only son, Jesus, to die in our pace (John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 8:9)
